Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, took control to create a third set.

The opponent saved 4 initial chances in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
